Welcome to Quick Tips, where I will share tool or parts tips that have saved me time, money, and often, headaches. I will only share tips on tools or parts that I use myself.

We have all been there.  Rust removal from old car parts, tools, or hardware is a rite of passage for anyone who spends time in the garage. Especially if you fix old cars.

Ive tried everything from wire wheeling, sanding, sandblasting, and all the sketchy chemicals such as Naval Jelly, Carb Dip, etc. They all serve their purpose but if you want to remove light surface rust, such as when I was putting together my 911 factory tool kit, there is no easier way than with Evaporust Rust Remover.

I had a bunch of OE factory tools that had light surface rust on them and I didn’t want to damage the finish with something abrasive and I wasn’t too stoked on using chemicals that smelled weird or were capable of causing burns.

I bought a jug of Evaporust on Amazon and decided to give it a shot. I dropped all my rusty tools in a bucket.

I poured Evaporust to the top of the bucket and left it alone.

I came back about a couple of hours later and it was already doing its magic.

It was turning the rust into a black film. I left it overnight and the next day I pulled all the tools out and rinsed them off with a garden hose. No scrubbing, no nothing.

I dried them off with a paper towel and they looked fantastic!

The results were so good I took the rest of my tools from the 911 toolkit and dipped them all so they would be just as clean. My favorite part was the little metal insert inside the yellow screwdriver handle looking good as new.

Apparently you can keep re-using Evaporust over and over until it loses its chemical ability to remove rust. I poured the old liquid from the bucket back into the original bottle through a funnel and coffee filter to capture all the solid rust chunks. Easy peasy. No chemical hazards or elbow grease required. Give it a shot, I highly recommend it.

I hope this helps!

Note: As always, please follow the instructions on the bottle to make sure you get appropriate results.
