If you are sorting out the fuel system on your old 911, one of the most important tests you can do is a smoke test to eliminate any vacuum leaks in the system. This is especially important for cars running Bosch CIS K-Jetronic. As we already know, CIS hates vacuum leaks and they are commonly responsible for most running problems on neglected cars. Fortunately this is a test you can do yourself quite easily in less than 30 minutes and will give you instant identification of problem areas.

A decent smoke tester doesn’t cost very much and will serve you well for years to come. Here is a link to a unit similar to the one I own. This is a great skill to have and you can use the same tool for any other cars you wrench on.
